Absolutely Bushed Landscaping:
Award Winning Landscape Design

Rusty Fitzgerald, Director of the State Fair of Texas, called our offices in the summer of 2004.  Rusty invited Absolutely Bushed Landscaping to take part in the first ever Fall Garden Exhibition for The State Fair of Texas.

One of the two flowerbeds we were invited to redesign was filled with 50-year-old boxwoods and poison ivy.  Absolutely Bushed Landscaping jumped on the opportunity to get involved, give back to the city of Dallas, and beautify the grounds of the beloved yearly event.  The Fall Garden Exhibition invited landscape companies of all sizes from the North Texas area to enter.

Jimmie Gibson, the owner of Absolutely Bushed Landscaping, was interviewed by Clarice Tinsley from Fox 4 News for her “Hometown Hero” segment.  This aired in September of 2004 right before the kick off to the Fall Garden Exhibition. In 2004,  Absolutely Bushed Landscaping won the “Director’s Choice Award” for design.

The following year the 1st place prize went to Absolutely Bushed Landscaping.  Jimmie Gibson, the owner of Absolutely Bushed Landscaping, was also offered to landscape the Big Tex flowerbed. But he had to decline, due to the fact that he already had two of the largest flower beds at the State Fair.

Absolutely Bushed Landscaping was the FIRST landscape company to think of families; we created the pumpkin patch.  It was outfitted with scarecrows, crows, a covered wagon, hay bails, and a wide variety of pumpkins.   Often imitated but never duplicated: the state fair goers loved it!  We always take it as a compliment when other companies adopt some of our ideas into their designs.   The second flowerbed a tropically landscaped paradise located near the midway entrance.  The top prize of “Best In Show” was awarded in 2006. Winning top prizes was not easy, as we were going up against well-known home gardening giant Home Depot; who also sponsors the Fall Garden Exhibition.

The following years for 2007 and 2008 1st place and the “Presidential Award for Excellence” was also awarded to the Dallas landscaping company.  The  “Ask The Experts” seminars on Sundays is something we truly miss.  We look forward to getting back into the State Fair this year.

Our award-winning flowerbed contained the following:  a pond with live plants,  two large rock waterfalls that streamed into the pond, a pumpkin patch for families to enjoy, three shade arbors, and hand built walking bridge, all handcrafted by our master carpenter, and flowers, flowers, flowers, of course!
