Swimming Pool Landscape Renovation In Dallas

Swimming Pool Landscape Design

When the design team of Absolutely Bushed Landscaping recently met with our client – she expressed an interest in reviving her backyard pool in into a tropical retreat area. She wanted a tropical retreat not only for her own year round enjoyment and relaxation, but for her extended family and friends as well.

The Challenge: Create Hawaii in Dallas

Our goal was for Absolutely Bushed Landscaping to come in and landscape this backyard and give it that “I’m in Hawaii feel”.  We began by removing some of the old “tired” existing landscape that had become a bit lifeless, and overgrown.

The existing landscaping was also very  messy with foliage dropping into the pool; and had become a maintenance issue.  Our landscape design team came up with a plan to solve these issues.

The Process

Sometimes in these landscape renovation projects one of the greatest necessities can be going backwards before you can move forward. Our client wanted her new look to have minimal seasonal or annual color. But wanted lots of year round interest; so our landscape design had to to keep that in mind.

We blended some native accent plantings with mostly tropical anchors and base plantings to create the look and feel the client wanted; and that we envisioned for the project. Plantings included Espalier trellised plants for tight vertical spots that needed softening.

Ornamental tropical anchors and low level tropical plants were placed. We used fence softening plants; and created functional access areas with large natural flagstone pathways etc…

Watering by Design

Another challenge that we encountered in her Dallas landscape:  No irrigation in the backyard pool area. With this type of tropical design – correct water was essential. We designed a two zone soaker hose system to run throughout the landscaping area. It used only one water faucet as our main source of water. And the water system had two separate timers to operate different designed zones. The zones were programmed to run at different times; so as not to deplete the water pressure.

Water pressure is important when dealing with soaker hoses or even drip type irrigation. Most people don’t realize the time it takes for water to travel through a drip line or soaker hosefor a long distance. By the time the water reaches the end source of your distribution lines – the timer could easily shutoff. This creates a situation of the plantings at the end of your water lines getting little to no water! We know how to plan for these issues.

As you can see by the pictures of this project the end result was worth all of the effort. Another project well thought out in design, installation and maintained by Absolutely Bushed Landscaping.
